Have you ever felt like you didn’t know how to describe yourself through a screen, or make a good first impression through paper? As someone who feels like they make a good first impression in person, this is a frustration that I have faced for a long time. Getting to make the Branding Suite Project and all that I learned in this course to do so successfully has truly been my favorite part and most definable skill from this course thus far.
When approaching this course, I had never used Adobe before. I was a dedicated Canva girl and had never stepped out of my comfort zone, so I truly approached this course at ground zero. What made the branding suite so exciting was using InDesign, rather than Photoshop or Lightroom, I was creating something in Adobe that I had the skills to make in Canva. It felt like a different challenge of being familiar enough that I knew I could make something great, but not familiar enough that I knew it wouldn’t be easy.
I also loved the branding suite because of the challenge to create something that showcases who I am digitally. A way to translate that I’m creative, yet concise, trendy yet sophisticated. Getting to walk away from this project and show it off to my friends while taking a step back to recognize the great job that I did has been more exciting than any other project I’ve done in college. I think I find this much excitement in it because of how much I know it perfectly fits me, and I know my friends will think the same thing.
Above is the resume I submitted for my Summer Internship when I applied in January. Although clean, its goal was to showcase a love for Auburn rather than a knowledge and depiction of self, which happened to be fitting for an Auburn Advancement Internship. However, it wasn’t the best it could be and it wouldn’t necessarily stand out in a crowd of hundreds of applicants. While it was orange and blue, it didn’t show you anything about me or the type of employee I would be except that I was a student of Auburn and clearly like Auburn. When reflection now, I realize you can see that from the information on the resume itself, and didn’t have to be in the design as well.
Below, you can see the resume that I submitted to a job last week. It shows you that I’m trendy, insightful, while also clean and sophisticated. I always use the color green, and often wear the color green in interviews, to subconsciously help people remember me by my last name. It’s worked great thus far in on campus interviews so it’s time to put it to the test in the real world. I love that this project helped me walk away with a personal brand that I can carry into my early young adult years. Because of this project I can walk into interviews much more confident that the young woman they read about on the page is the same young woman that is sitting in front of them right now.
Getting to accomplish this creative brief, specifically sitting down with an idea of what I wanted to share in order to flesh it out into something bright, colorful and representative of me, has been the most beneficial skill I have learned in a college class. Thank you Auburn PR!
